Dorje Wangchuk Lama
Expedition Leader
Dorje Wangchuk Lama was born in Nyin Valley (Humla), in the hidden Himalayas of Nepal (above 2,700m/8,858ft). He left his family at the age of 15 to pursue his higher education and graduated in Travel and Tourism Management from Kathmandu University.
He spent around a decade working closely with Tashi Tenzing, grandson of Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, one of the first persons to climb Mount Everest. During that period, he had the opportunity to trek all over the Himalayas in Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan, and built himself as one of the most experienced guides and group leaders in Nepal. In 2014, he registered his own trekking company named ‘Himalayan Native Treks’.
Dorje feels cultural preservation is important, but also that tourism can play a vital role in improving the livelihoods of native Himalayan people and helping them to promote their local products. Dorje is a keen hiker and rock climber, but also enjoys painting and nature-photography whenever time permits.
During 2013-2016, Dorje had the opportunity to lead many trekking groups for Aurora Expeditions. He is excited and honoured to lead our groups again with our new and improved Nepal trekking program.
