Map & Itinerary

Departures on certain dates will have reversed itineraries
Day 1 – Punta Arenas to Puerto Williams, Chile
Today you'll board our aircraft for the short, scenic flight to Puerto Williams. On arrival you'll enjoy a town tour before boarding Polar Pioneer to begin our journey to Antarctica and South Georgia.
Days 2 to 3 – Drake Crossing
Spend the next couple of days getting familiar with our ship, your home-away-from-home, and enjoying briefings from our expedition team and our naturalist and historian. For those part of the photography masterclass, your guide will prepare you with initial workshops.
Days 4 to 7 – Antarctic Peninsula
We cruise from the South Shetland Islands and through spectacular Gerlache Strait, passing the western flank of the Antarctic Peninsula - where you'll step foot on the continent. We may encounter pack ice, and penguin rookeries alive with courtship, mating and nest-building. Leopard seals and South Polar skuas are on the hunt, while shy giant petrels incubate their eggs. With nearly 24 hours daylight, we pack in as much as possible, visit historic sites, attempting to land on the continent proper and Zodiac cruising amongst spectacular icebergs.
Day 8 – Elephant Island (weather permitting)
We approach Point Wild, a bleak, rocky spit along Elephant Island's dramatic north coast. If condition allow, we'll Zodiac cruise, possibly even step ashore, to pay tribute to Shackleton's 22 men who survived here for four months, living under upturned lifeboats.
Days 9 to 10 – Scotia Sea
We farewell Antarctica and begin our crossing to South Georgia. You'll have time to unwind and reflect on Antarctica and prepare for the next leg of our adventure.
Days 11 to 14 – South Georgia
We'll have ample time to explore the island's spectacular northern coast as spring brings an explosion of life. We visit wildlife havens that include the world's largest king penguin rookeries, majestic albatross nests and beaches cluttered with basking elephant seals, feisty fur seals and penguins. Kayakers revel in paddling the coastline's nooks and crannies, accompanied by playful seal pups. We learn of Shackleton's Epic and hope to retrace his expedition's final steps from Fortuna Bay to Stromness. In Grytviken, we enjoy a guided tour of the fascinating South Georgia Museum, and toast 'The Boss' and his right-hand man, Frank Wild, at their graveside.
Days 15 to 17 – Scotia Sea
If time and weather permits, we may pass Shag Rocks - the six small islands in the westernmost extremity of South Georgia - before we continue our journey towards the Falkland Islands.
Day 18 – Stanley, Falkland Islands
Today enjoy a stop in Port Stanley, capital of the Falklands, before cruising west-bound towards Ushuaia.
Day 19 – Scotia Sea
Back on the Scotia Sea we make our last sea crossing. As Tierra del Fuego approaches, the air becomes warmer and we may smell the scent of green, grass-covered land.
Day 20 – Ushuaia, Argentina
During the morning we travel up the Beagle Channel to dock in Ushuaia, then transfer to our hotel or onto homeward-bound flights. NOTE: ASG74 is an 18-day voyage an operates in reverse, starting with a flight from Santiago to the Falkland Islands, sailing to South Georgia and then the Antarctica Peninsula before finishing in Ushuaia.
