Map & Itinerary

Day 1 – Stockholm
On arrival into Stockholm, please make your own way to the group hotel (details will be provided in your final documents). Stockholm may be the most popular capital city in Scandinavia and with its gorgeous archipelago surrounding the city, there’s no secret that it is also one of the most beautiful capitals in the world. With a vibrant atmosphere, world-class museums, beautiful architecture and a 750-year history, this city has got plenty to explore and to experience. Enjoy some time here before you travel further north for your trekking adventure tomorrow.
Day 2 – Fly to Kiruna, transfer to Abisko
After breakfast, meet the group at the lobby for a private transfer to the airport. Your flight destination is Kiruna, above the Arctic Circle in North of Sweden. Approximately one hour’s drive from Kiruna Airport is the Abisko Tourist Station, which will be your base over the next week, lined by the Abisko Mountains. There will be a short presentation about Abisko and the coming week and a welcome dinner at the hotel.
Day 3 – Hike — Mt. Nuolja
Gather after breakfast for a guided hike to the peak of Mt Nuolja from where you have a fantastic view over the Abisko Mountains. It is not all about walking on this trip; a comfortable chair lift will take you up to the Aurora Sky Station at 900 metres (2,953 feet) altitude where the trail to the peak starts. Return to Abisko Mountain Station around 4 pm. Dinner at the hotel is included. Total hiking time approx. 6 hours, distance 7 km (4.4 miles), difference in altitude +250 metres (+820 feet)
Day 4 – Hike - Valley of Kärkevagge
Enjoy the breakfast and start a guided hike to the Valley of Kärkevagge. You will see high cliffs, boulder fields and delta formations. Enjoy the incredible landscape where the barren mountain terrain and fields of colourful alpine flowers are side by side - a paradise for hikers. Trollsjön, the clearest lake in Sweden, is located at the heart of this unique valley. This trek is a must for all Abisko visitors! Total hiking time approx. 7 hours, distance 12 km (7.5 miles), difference in altitude +400 metres (+1,312 feet)
Day 5 – Hike - Lapporten Valley
Breakfast and a guided hike towards the famous Lapporten Valley, one of the most photographed motifs in Sweden! The trail starts in the birch forest and winds up into the open mountain terrain. You will make a stop at the cliff of Paddus, a holy place for Sami people with outstanding views over Abisko and Lake Torne Träsk. This area is also known for its birdlife; Blue- throats and Bramblings as well as big birds of prey like Buzzards and Eagles can often be seen and heard. Total hiking distance max 18 kilometres (11 miles), difference in altitude max +400 metres (+1,312 feet)
Day 6 – Hike — Navvy Road
After breakfast hike along the Navvy Road with your private guide. This trail was used by the Navvies when they built the railway at the turn of the century between the 18 and 1900'. During the day you will pass a lot of cultural and historic places and also get to learn more about the hard life they lived when building a railway over the mountains in the Arctic. You will leave the Navvy Road after appr. 4-5 hours and return to Abisko by bus. Total hiking time approx. 4-5 hours, distance 13 km (8 miles), difference in altitude +100 metres (+328 feet)
Day 7 – Hike — King’s Trail; Sami Camp
A taste of the Famous King's Trail; the trail is 430 km (267 miles) long but you will only walk a few kilometres to one of the meditation places on the trail. During this walk you will get to know more about the history of the King's Trail and Abisko National park. When returning to Abisko there is a different path that takes you to the built-up Sami camp where you will learn about the people who lived here long before the tourists arrived. Total hiking distance approx. 8 km (5 miles), difference in altitude +50 metres (+165 feet)
Day 8 – Tromsø
