Top Things To Do In Broome Before Your Kimberley Coast Cruise

Australia offers many unique wildlife attractions for your enjoyment, and even though you can experience a lot of them through an Aurora Expeditions adventure, there’s still plenty for you to do and see.

If you are embarking on a Kimberly Coast Cruise that either starts or finishes in Broome, you’ll most likely want to make the most of your travels, especially as you travel between the two states, Western Australia and Northern Territory.

You may want to spend some time exploring Broome, whether you’ve just finished your cruise or are yet to set off. This provides an opportunity to see all that the beachy town has to offer.

Here are some must-visit attractions in Broome.

Sunbathe on the beach

What’s the best way to enjoy a trip near one of Australia’s summery coastlines? Relax at the beach, of course.

Broome is home to a tropical climate, with both a wet and dry season. As such, the weather remains hot all year round

Cable Beach is possibly the most well-known out of all Broome’s beaches. The beach spans 22 kilometres, surrounded by breathtaking red cliffs. The ocean is a sparkling turquoise, while the sand is the stuff made of dreams – pure and white.

It’s the perfect location to relax and work on that tan. If it’s a little too populated for your liking, perhaps try Riddell Beach, Roebuck Bay or Middle Lagoon. Each of these may be less central and require transport to get there, but they each have their own unique attractions, such as a bird observatory at Roebuck Bay.

Explore Broome’s history

Broome may not be a massive town, though its history suggests otherwise. You’ll not only get an in-depth insight into the local area, but you’ll also learn about the vibrant pearl farming history that Broome is well-known for. Divers were constantly scouring Broome’s seabeds, in the hunt for the world’s biggest pearl shell. This search came to an end when plastic was discovered in the 1950s.

This is just a snippet of all the gold nuggets of rich information you’ll accrue at Broome Historical Museum, and as many reviews on Trip Advisor suggests, you won’t regret paying this venue a visit.

Watch a movie under the stars

Whether you’re still fascinated with Broome’s rich history, or you’re wanting to catch a modern movie, pop by Sun Pictures Cinemas. It’s the oldest operating picture garden in the world, and you can get outdoor seats with a sea of stars as your ceiling.

It’s a rustic-chic setting complete with an unforgettable experience, submerging you in a historical environment while watching the latest blockbuster on screen. You can even bring your own food in.

Get up close with reptiles

Upon entering the Malcolm Douglas Wilderness Park, you’ll pass through the gaping mouth of a fibreglass replica of a saltwater crocodile. With a daily feeding tour, you can see up close some of the largest crocodiles that Australia has to show, and possibly even get the chance to hold a young croc in your own hands!

That’s not all – there’s also alligators, birds, kangaroos, dingos and many other species. Only a 15-minute drive from Broome, it’s certainly not something you’ll want to miss.

As you can see, there are many things to do in Broome before or after brooming off on your Kimberly Coast Cruise. You’ll make the most of your trip to Western Australia, and it can be the perfect way to get you into that travelling mode.
