From the start, Aurora Expeditions was destined to be different. Our passion for adventure, exploring wild places and sharing the experience with friends burns just as brightly as it did 25 years ago, as does our preference for small-group, personal expeditions.
At sea, all of our expeditions are on ships of 60-passengers or less. We are one of the only companies operating trips of this size. Less people means more solitude and greater flexibility if tides, currents, ice or weather dictate a schedule change. And because we have less people to ferry ashore, we often make more landings. Our Patagonia treks are limited to 15 expeditioners or less. This ensures personal attention and a nice mix of people to share the adventure.
We make the most of our size advantage to create intimate expeditions varying in length from 10 to 24 days. Simply choose the region you’d like to explore, the amount of time you’ve got and what activities you enjoy. You can focus on one destination or combine back-to-back trips for the ultimate adventure.
Each expedition is accompanied by an expedition team we believe are the world’s best. Remote area specialists, their onboard lectures entertain and expand your knowledge.
Whether you’re joining us for the first time or returning for another thrilling adventure, our original goals remain unchanged. Explore wild places that stir the soul, offer personal attention on unforgettable expeditions and welcome new friends into the Aurora family.
Why Travel with Aurora Expeditions?
Small groups are best.
We take a maximum of 60 passengers on our voyages. Unlike larger vessels, our smaller ice-strengthened ship allows us the flexibility to land when the best opportunities present themselves. In turn our passengers can experience nature at its very best; maximizing time spent exploring and ashore. Our trekking adventures are limited to 15 passengers.
Consistently Aurora Expeditions.
Rather than book you onto another company’s trip, we operate only our own expeditions, either on vessels that we charter, or working closely with local experts who share our ethos and style. Our staff put you first. Your security, wellbeing and understanding of the places we visit are their priorities. They have a passion for sharing their knowledge and making everyone feel as if they are on the same team.
A top-class team.
Our highly acclaimed expedition staff are some of the best in the business. Many are the recognised world leaders in their fields, and they enthusiastically share their knowledge to ensure that each moment you spend with us is interesting and educational. Meet them here.
Environmental sensitivity and enrichment.
We helped develop international environmental guidelines for the polar regions we visit, and consciously limit the number of people we take to our destinations. The more our remote area specialists share their knowledge about the natural environments we encounter, the more rewarding your experience.
Flexibility and freedom.
We stop for breaching whales! Our itineraries are designed with flexibility in mind. If weather or sea ice block our way, we always have a Plan B, C and D! We're always on the look at for new places to explore and we're not afraid to adjust our schedule if we stumble upon an unexpected wildlife display.
Our spirit of adventure!
We were the pioneers of some previously unheard of activities such as polar diving, polar kayaking and camping on the ice in Antarctica. Photograph ice-tipped peaks in Patagonia, scuba dive or snorkel with leopard seals, sea kayak with whales or enjoy a feast of tundra berries. Ponder ancient rock paintings or enjoy a totem carving session. No matter where we are in the world, we encourage a true sense of exploration.
It's your expedition.
Enjoy our destinations in your own way! Travelling with a small ship operator allows you to embark on exactly the type of experience you would like; whether it be releasing your inner adventurer with a polar plunge, spending lazy afternoons looking for polar bears from the deck, kayaking amongst the icebergs or hiking to abundant bird cliffs…the choice is yours!
We have fun.
We love what we do and believe that everyone involved, from expeditioners to staff, ship’s crews to trekking teams, shares the same goal – the best expedition imaginable! We believe in creating a relaxed and informal atmosphere on board our ships. Casual clothes and a matching attitude are our hallmarks: no need to dress up unless you want to, and we hope we provide you with many opportunities for fun and adventure.
We offer many inclusions.
Whether it’s a stylish jacket and photo journal memento to keep, or gumboots to wear on our polar voyages; flights for our fly/sail Antarctic program; linking flights in Iceland, Alaska, Ecuador, and Africa, our inclusions are what most others would consider extras.
