Discover the world’s largest lava mass in Cross Eldhruan and later continue to the birthplace of icebergs; Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon and Skaftafell National Park.
Day 1 – Reykjavik
Make your own way to the group hotel in Reykjavik.
Day 2 – Geysir & Vik (B,D)
Enjoy a short city tour of Reykjavík before arriving at the village of Hverageroi to explore Gullfoss, the ‘Golden Waterfall’, and the nearby Geysir hot spring area. Admire the south shore’s beautiful scenery on the journey Dyrholaey nature reserve and the village of Vík.
Overnight: Vik area
Day 3 – Vik & Höfn (B,D)
Cross Eldhraun, the world’s largest lava mass, before reaching small village of Kirkjubaejarklaustur. Continue to Skaftafell National Park and Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon, the birthplace of icebergs.
Overnight: Höfn area
Day 4 – East Fjords & Egilsstadir (B,D)
Drive from Höfn through Almannaskaro pass. Continue to the East Fjords, where towering mountains plunging vertically into the sea. Explore Petra’s renowned stone collection.
Overnight: Egilsstadir area
Day 5 – Lake Myvatn Area (B,D)
Explore the highland desert plateau Möðrudalsöræfi. On the way, stop at Dettifoss, Europe’s most powerful waterfall. Visit Námaskarð pass with its boiling mud pools and explore the Lake Mývatn area, including the pseudo craters at Skútustaðir and Laxá salmon river.
Overnight: Myvatn area
Day 6 – Lake Myvatn & Akureyri (B)
Start the day by exploring the peculiar lava formations at Dimmuborgir. Travel towards the bustling northern port of Akureyri, stopping at the magnificent Godafoss waterfall and Laufas turf farm.
Overnight: Akureyri area
Day 7 – Skagafjordur & Borgarnes (B,D)
Visit Skagafjorour to see the unique Icelandic horse before travelling through Hrutey Island, a protected nature reserve. Cross the Holtavorouheioi plateau through Borgarfjorour to beautiful Borgarnes.
Overnight: Borgarnes area
Day 8 – Borgarfjordu, Thingvellir & Reykjavik (B)
Drive to Deildartunguhver, the most powerful hot spring in the world. Admire the beautiful Hraunfossar waterfalls, before continuing over the Kaldidalur mountain pass. The journey continues to Lake Thingvallavatn, Iceland’s largest lake and Thingvellir NP, the ancient site of the world’s first outdoor parliament.
Day 9 – Reykjavik (B)
This morning your tour will end and you’ll carry on with your own arrangements.
