Expedition doctor Dr. Mari Fleri

Mari was born in Japan, and moved to the UK as a child with her family. Following a round the world travel after qualifying in medicine she fell in love with Australia and moved to Sydney where she has lived for the past 20 years. Mari is a keen newcomer to Aurora Expeditions, but no stranger to working in remote conditions. She has worked in Nepal on a medical trek to provide healthcare to remote villages, Madagascar earlier this year as camp medic to a conservation research team, and on and off for the past 10 years in indigenous communities throughout the Northern Territory and Far North Queensland. Her love of travel and the outdoors ranges from trekking in the Atacama desert to the foothills of the Himalayas.

When in Sydney she currently works for Justice Health (endlessly fascinating and challenging trying to improve the health of prison inmates) and part time in Emergency. She has worked extensively in the past with asylum seekers coming to Australia. She is married with three grown up children. Her husband is also a doctor working as a paediatrician for newborns who has done missions with MSF.

Bushwalking, kayaking, skiing and windsurfing are what she loves best in her downtime.
