Jonathan Chester

Naturalist

Jonathan’s passion for nature and the great outdoors stems from adventures roaming the bushlands of Adelaide Hills in Australia as a young man. His extensive knowledge of polar history, geography and ecology, combined with firsthand experience and expertise garnered during the writing of his many books on polar subjects.

Jonathan has had many experiences scuba diving, hiking and rock climbing which led to scaling
the faces of the legendary Mount Arapiles and Moonarie to mountaineering in New Zealand. Then spending the next decade “living to climb”, from the world’s highest peaks to more remote mountains, then shifting to decades of polar expeditions and adventures in Antarctica.

Cape Dennison, Commonwealth Bay, East Antarctica, where Douglas Mawson’s built his famous Huts in 1911.

Advice: “Be Flexible!”The weather and ice conditions can vary greatly, often going from one extreme to the other changing plans, activities, or destinations. All part of the adventure of Antarctica!
