Dr Leopoldo Soibelzon

Assistant Expedition Leader

Leo’s parents encouraged his natural affinity for research and exploration by gifting him a microscope at a young age. Today, he is far beyond sketching insects in a notebook. A decorated biologist, sailor and explorer, you can still see that childlike wonder alive in his works. Leo has a degree in Biology and a PhD in Natural Sciences, main lining in the study of South American carnivorous mammals and is currently a Principal Investigator of CONICET. In 2002, he participated in a research project on elephant seals in the South Shetlands and has returned to Antarctica every opportunity since. He’s lived every kind of Antarctic experience, living in small shelters, travelling in an Air Force Hercules plane, working with seals and penguins – all of which he is excited to share with you onboard.
