Map & Itinerary

Day 1 – Bergen, Norway

On arrival into Bergen, please make your own way to the group hotel (details will be provided in your final documents). Bergen is the second largest city in Norway and the most popular gateway to the fjords of West Norway. The city is renowned for its beautiful nature and offers excellent hiking opportunities in its immediate surroundings. Having fostered many of Norway’s greatest bands and artists, the city is also famous for its cultural life and underground/indie music scene. Enjoy some time here before meeting with your group tomorrow.

Day 2 – Bergen, Norway

Meet the group at the lobby and have a 3-hour guided walking city tour of Bergen. See the colourful and picturesque fish market and the old hanseatic wharf at Brygge. You will also ride with a funicular to the top of Mt. Fløyen for an overview of whole Bergen. Transfer to Ullensvang Hotel for an overnight stay and welcome dinner.

Day 3 – Juklavass Glacier

Have a transfer to Jondal to experience an ice hike on Juklavass Glacier. This 6-hour hike consists of both calm, flat ice and more challenging crevasse areas. The tour is adjusted to the wishes and condition of the participants. Take a break in the middle of the ice fall with view over the North Sea and the Rosendal alps. Learn about the culture and the physical geography. In the end, there is a walk back in the afternoon light with fjord and mountains below you.
Total hiking time approx. 6 hours, distance 5-6 km (3.1-3.7 miles)

Day 4 – Skomakarnibbå

The 5-hour roundtrip hike leads you through pastures and forests to the spectacular Ullsvikjuvet Gorge and Skomakarnibbå, providing magnificent views on the Jøsenfjord and surrounding mountains and Ryfylke Islands.Included in the trip is a visit to Hagalid Mountain Farm and Gallery, with exhibition and sale of Norwegian art and crafts, mainly by artists from the fjords. Day 6 – Fjord and islands kayak tour*

Today there will be no hikes. There are many good walking paths in the area surrounding the hotel.

The fjords of Norway are perfect for kayaking, regardless of age or experience. Soak up the serenity as you glide across the water. Find the shallow, narrow channels and straits that other small boats are hesitant to cross, and a myriad of small islands, reefs and islets that make navigation fun.

Day 7 – Hike — Flørli staircase

Transfer to Forsand for a ferry ride to Flørli. Once in Flørli, climb the 4,444 wooden staircase, the longest wooden stairs in Norway. The hike alone takes about 4 hours round-trip. The stairs follow the pipeline from the old Flørli hydroelectric power plant, up to the dam at Ternevatnet (740msl). The stairs are from 1916-1918 when the old power station was built and it was operational until 1999. The old power station is now replaced with a new one located inside the mountain and it is now used as a café, museum and exhibition venue.
