Map & Itinerary

Day 1 – Oslo, Norway

On arrival into Oslo, please make your own way to the group hotel (details will be provided in your final documents). Between the Oslo Fjord and the green hills of Oslomarka lies the Norwegian capital. The combination of city life and easy access to outdoor activities makes Oslo a unique destination. Oslo is the biggest city in Norway, and has been the country’s capital since 1814. The Government and Parliament are located here, and at the end of Oslo’s main street, Karl Johan’s gate, you find the Royal Palace. Oslo has everything you would expect from a capital. The city offers an abundance of attractions, shopping possibilities and a flourishing cultural life, and a choice of restaurants which is almost unparalleled in Scandinavia. Enjoy some time here before meeting with your group tomorrow.

Day 2 – Oslo, Norway

After breakfast meet your local Oslo-guide and explore the capital of Norway. Hear about the city’s history and explore the popular Vigeland’s Park with its sculptures, learn more about Vikings at the Viking Museum and see the City Hall and the modern Opera House just to mention a few places to see.
Get to know your fellow hikers better with a welcome dinner at the hotel.

Day 3 – Oslo to Jotunheimen

This morning you will be taken to Leirvassbu Mountain Lodge, idyllically situated in Jotunheimen, by Leirvatnet Lake, right at the foot of the distinctive Kyrkja mountain. The lake gets its green colour from clay particles and rock dust, carved out by glaciers and swept along by rivers. The glaciers are continuously crushing up rocks and stones. When the glacial water reaches the lakes and fjords, it looks green, particularly when the sun is shining.

Day 4 – Hike — Mt. Kyrkja

After breakfast join your first hike of the tour. Destination: the mountain Kyrkja, rising 2,032 metres (6,667 feet) above sea level. Kyrkja has a characteristic cone shape and is located in the “heart” of the Jotunheimen mountain range. It is a relatively easy hike, and despite the “modest” height, the view from the top is outstanding.

Total hiking time approx. 5-6 hours, distance 9-10 km (5.5-6 miles), difference in altitude +670 metres (+2,198 feet)

Day 5 – Cave hiking in Dumdalen Valley

Transfer to Dumdalen Valley for hiking in the marble caves. The valley is beautiful, lush and full of geohistory. Enjoy an outdoor lunch in the valley. Transfer to Sognefjellshytta.

Total hiking time approx. 3-4 hours, distance 3-4 km (1.8-2.5 miles)

Day 6 – Bøverbreen Glacier

Leave your luggage at the hotel as you will return to Sognefjellshytta after the day’s hike to the Bøverbreen Glacier. This is a spectacular, blue-ice glacier with stunning towers and crevasses. To reach the glacier there is a one hour walk from Sognefjellshytta to the edge of the glacier. The hiking towards the glacier is slightly downhill in the beginning and ends with an easy uphill-hike. After exploring the glacier return to Sognefjellshytta following the same trail back.

Total hiking time approx. 5-6 hours, distance 8-10 km (5-6.2 miles)

Day 7 – Fossbergom

Today there will be no hikes. After breakfast experience Fossbergom, the municipality centre of Lom. Several sights to see such as the Stave church dating back to the year 1130, the stone museum and the Norwegian Mountain Centre.

Day 8 – Rafting Sjoa River*

*Optional: 5-hour Sjoa River rafting tour. AU$680 per person

Rafting in the river Sjoa. With normal and high water levels you raft the Sjoa’s best stretch twice. The first trip is an opportunity for learning the commands, paddle techniques and coordination. The first trip ends by paddling into the camp for a warm lunch. After lunch at the camp you challenge the river again with more surfing, action and fun. If the water level is lower this allows you to raft the ‘washing machine’. You set off downstream to tackle the biggest rapid of the day. The tour ends at ‘Riksanlegget’ the National facility for whitewater. Rafting in total about 5 hours.

For those who would prefer not to take part in the rafting, but still wish to be active, there are several walking paths straight from the hotel for exploring the surrounding nature.

Day 9 – Galdhøpiggen

After breakfast have a transfer to Juvasshytta for summit-hiking the highest mountain in Norway - Galdhøpiggen, 2,468 metres (8,097 feet) above sea level. There is 670 metres (2,198 feet) difference in height between Juvasshytta and the summit of Mount Galdhøpiggen. This evening, enjoy a farewell group dinner to celebrate a memorable experience hiking in Norway together.

Total hiking time approx. 7 hours, distance 6 km (3.7 miles)

Day 10 – Oslo

Today your itinerary will end in Oslo, where you can continue your adventure at your own arrangements.
