Map & Itinerary

Day 1 – Longyearbyen
Enjoy a guided group tour of Longyearbyen, Svalbard's capital, before boarding the Greg Mortimer to sail north.
Days 2-3 – North West Svalbard
Cruise northwards along the west coast of Spitsbergen, perhaps stopping at intriguing places like Kongsfjorden, Magdalenefjörden, or 14th July Glacier.
Days 4-6 – North Svalbard
Explore the northern flanks of Spitsbergen and Nordauslandet. Along the north coast we explore rarely visited places such as Woodfjorden and Liefdejorden in search of the mighty polar bear. We may go to the Seven Islands, the northernmost islands in Svalbard where polar bears and walrus are common.
Days 7-8 – North East Svalbard
Along the northeast coast of Spitsbergen we enter a different world – a polar desert. If ice conditions allow, we will pass south through the narrow Hinlopen Strait. Between the islands of Barentsøya and Edgeøya, we cross a major polar bear migration route and the beautiful fertile plains of Sundeneset.
Days 9-10 – Barents Sea
We will attempt one last landing around Edgeøya in the morning of Day 9 before starting the crossing of the Barents Sea to Kirkenes.
Days 10-12 – Kirkenes
Stop in Kirkenes then sail to neighbouring Murmansk, Russia, for clearance before setting off on our adventures to Franz Josef Land.
Days 13-14 – Franz Josef Land
Enjoy onboard lectures from our team of experts during our crossing to Franz Joseph Land. On Day 14, we may cruise along the coast of Novaya Zemlya to have a glimpse of the tundra of the high Arctic.
Days 15-21 – Franz Josef Land
Franz Josef Land is a stark yet beautiful world of glaciers, mosses, and lichens. Approximately five million seabirds nest here every year, and the archipelago is home to two arctic giants – the polar bear and the walrus. Whales, including humpback, bowhead and beluga whale, also frequent the area along with ringed seals, bearded seals and a large variety of mammals. Possible landings may include Prince George Land, Alexandra Land, Bell and Mabel Island, Champ Island and Cape Flora
Days 22-25 – Barents Sea
On leaving Franz Josef Land, crossing the Barents Sea is again an opportunity to see whales (possibly the elusive bowhead whale) and large numbers of seabirds. From Murmansk sail overnight to Kirkenes, Norway, (approx. 12 hours), where we disembark and bid farewell.
