Health, Fitness & Age Limits
Our expeditions to the Kimberley are suitable for a wide range of travellers and age groups. While you don’t need to be overly fit, our Kimberley expeditions do offer some wonderful shore excursions and bushwalking opportunities. There are plenty of slower paced options to enjoy, such as viewing the wonderful landscapes from the ship, but to really make the most of your trip we do recommend that you are reasonably fit and healthy.
All of our passengers have the choice whether you would like to go ashore or not, and our expedition guides and crew are always available to help and assist you ashore wherever possible.
In the Kimberley we have the benefit of boarding our excursion craft from deck level, reducing the need to board from a steep gangway. Saying this, should you wish to make the most of your time ashore, you should be confident on your feet – with harder walking opportunities requiring to walk over wet rocks and uneven terrain.
If you would like to discuss your personal ability, our Expedition Experts would be happy to chat with your further.
The Kimberley is a destination for all ages. We don’t usually have young children on board in the Kimberley, however they are always welcomed. It doesn’t matter if you’re 8 or 70+, as long as you are ready for some adventure and exploration, you’re welcome to jump aboard our Kimberley expeditions.
Any person under 18 years of age must travel with their legal guardian and must be supervised by the guardian at all times.
Pre-Existing Medical Conditions
It is your responsibility to advise Aurora Expeditions of any pre-existing medical conditions and /or disability that might reasonably be expected to increase risk of you requiring medical attention. Travelling when pregnant is not recommended.
It is compulsory for each passenger to return a signed medical from your general practitioner. Your Medical Form is required to be signed by your general practitioner and returned to Aurora Expeditions no later than three months, and no earlier than six months, before your voyage departure date.
If you become aware of any change in your health and fitness that may be likely to affect your participation on the trip (e.g. pregnancy, mental illness, heart or bronchial disorder, broken limbs, etc.), you should notify us in writing immediately.
On Board First Aid & Medicines
There is no medical doctor on board the Coral Expeditions I, however a qualified First Aid officer is appointed on all expeditions.
As medical supplies are limited, it is important you bring any particular medical requirements (e.g. medication, dressings, etc) with you. We suggest you pack all medications in hand luggage and carry a duplicate supply in the checked luggage. If you wear glasses or contacts, bring an extra pair.
- Sun protection - The sun in the Kimberley is very strong and sun protection is essential. The glare off the water can be very intense, even on overcast days. Regular application of sunscreen and lip screen (minimum 15+) to exposed parts is essential to avoid burning. A dab around the nostrils is also a great idea as burnt nostrils, from reflected UV radiation, are very painful! Sunglasses with a good UV protection rating are also essential to prevent eye irritation. Remember to attach a cord to your glasses to prevent loss – we recommend carrying a spare pair of glasses in your luggage, just in case
- Dehydration - It is essential to keep well hydrated by drinking plenty of water. The Kimberley heat can be very draining, and lack of fluids can result in heat exhaustion, or even sunstroke. Aurora Expeditions provides each passenger with a complimentary 750ml water bottle on board.
- Immunisations - All travellers should be up-to-date on routine immunisations, including: Tetanus/diphtheria vaccine (ADT) and the influenza vaccine. This is available yearly and could help to prevent spoiling your holiday of a lifetime with a flu infection.
Please consult your General Practitioner for further information.
I could not speak more highly of Chris and Alasdair. Their knowledge and experience was wonderful and I don't think other tours could match them. A wonderful experience for us all.Tim L., Australia - Kimberley Coast, 2016
