Health, Fitness & Age Limits

Aurora Expeditions voyages attract a wide range of travellers and age groups, however what you personally would like to achieve on an expedition is up to you.

While you don’t need to be able to run a marathon, our expeditions to the Arctic do offer lots of great landings and walking opportunities. To make the most out of our landings we do recommend that you are reasonably fit and healthy, however we always offer slower group options for those who are after a more relaxed pace.

For those who are less able, there are also plenty of great opportunities to view the Arctic landscapes from the ship, and you have the choice whether you would like to go ashore or not. Our team is always on hand to help you make the most of your trip and to assist you ashore wherever possible.

You should be confident on your feet to allow you to walk up and down the ships gangway (equivalent to a steep set of stairs), get in and out of a Zodiac (see Zodiac Cruising in the Arctic), and walk across wet, snowy and/or rocky terrain.

If you are still in doubt, our Expedition Experts are happy to assist in helping you decide if an Arctic adventure is for you.

Age Limits

In the Arctic, we’ve taken children as young as 8 as well as young-hearted 90 year olds! As long as you are ready for some adventure and exploration, you’re welcome to jump aboard our Arctic expeditions.

Any person under 18 years of age must travel with their legal guardian.

Medical Form

It is compulsory for each passenger to return a signed medical from their general practitioner.  Your Medical Form is required to be signed by your general practitioner and returned to Aurora Expeditions no later than three months, and no earlier than six months, before your voyage departure date.

If you become aware of any change in your health and fitness that may be likely to affect your participation on the trip (e.g. pregnancy, mental illness, heart or bronchial disorder, broken limbs, etc.), you should notify us in writing immediately.

Pre-Existing Medical Conditions

It is your responsibility to advise Aurora Expeditions of any pre-existing medical conditions and /or disability that might reasonably be expected to increase risk of you requiring medical attention. Travelling when pregnant is not recommended.
