Solo Travellers, Families & Groups

Travelling on board a small ship in Antarctica is perfect for solo travellers, families and other small groups. Read on to find out how we can help you with your Antarctic adventure, no matter your group size!

Travelling Solo in Antarctica

One of the best solo adventures you could have is a small ship expedition to Antarctica! In a small group, you’ll enjoy getting to know your fellow passengers. Whether out on deck, in a Zodiac or in our communal bar and dining areas, you’re bound to strike up a conversation in no time.

Aurora Expeditions also offers a cabin sharing service for solo travellers, which means you can avoid paying single supplements if you're willing to share your room with a fellow traveller. Our team will match you with another solo passenger of the same gender and if we can’t find anyone, you’ll still only pay the twin price. Aboard the Greg Mortimer, there are a limited number of dedicated solo cabins available at a special rate of 1.25 times the twin share rate. Other single-use cabins are available for a surcharge of 1.7 times the twin share rate.

Antarctica for Families

Antarctica is the perfect destination for a family adventure. Whether you have curious little ones or are booking that final family holiday before your teenagers leave the nest, we have a voyage to suit your family.

Older kids may enjoy some of our activities such as sea kayaking, whilst a family camp out on the snow is perfect for smaller children.

As our vessels are small, we are unable to provide any dedicated children’s entertainment facilities (apart from the spectacular view from the window!) or child-minding service on board. In the past, we’ve found that young expeditioners bring a wonderful sense of excitement to our voyages and our team and fellow passengers have greatly enjoyed having them aboard.

All children are required to be supervised by their guardians throughout the entire trip.

Aurora Expeditions welcome groups on board our expeditions to Antarctica. From birding and photography clubs to university students and walking groups, we can cater for a wide range of interests and activities.

If you have a group of keen travellers interested in travelling to Antarctica, we are happy to discuss your options. For groups of 10 or more, we are happy to provide you with a special rate. Contact us for more details.

The staff and crew were excellent and all worked hard to make the trip an experience to remember.
Karen Bonthrone, UK - Weddell Sea and Antarctic Explorer, February 2016
Thanks for making a life long dream become a reality. The ship, the Drake, Antarctica, the staff, and the whole experience was better than I had hoped for. I am so glad that I finally did this trip and thanks to people like you who make small ships and small groups possible.
Wendy Smith - Spirit of Antarctica, 2015
I would like to commend the staff and crew - it was them who made the trip both a learning experience and something to be enjoyed. They were always prepared to go the extra mile.
