Trek grading

Our walking and trekking holidays offer something for everyone, from those who enjoy a gentle stroll to keen, long-distance explorers. Our grading system ranges from gentle to vigorous and will give you a general indication of the diffculty of the trip and what you can expect.

These tours typically mix sightseeing with an easy-paced half and/or full day walks of around 4 to 6 hours. Walking on relatively low altitude trails, some ascent and descent should be anticipated, and there may be an occasional longer walking day.
These holidays are suitable for people who enjoy easy-paced walks in the countryside and exploring on foot.

This is generally a 5 to 10 day trek with 4 to 6 hours of walking or trekking each day, occasionally a little bit longer. The trail will often venture into more remote country and can cross mountain passes with regular climbs and ascents. Altitudes are relatively low, reaching no higher than around 4,300 metres.  These treks are suitable for anyone who enjoys regular hill walking.

Typically these treks involve 5 to 10 days (occasionally more) trekking in relatively remote landscapes. High passes up to 4,900m may be crossed (sometimes snow covered) and there may also be glacier travel and peak ascents. Walking days can be between 5 and 8 hours with considerable ascents and descents.  These holidays would suit enthusiastic hill and/or mountain walkers.
