Shackleton Centenary Voyages

Between November 2014 and March 2016 Aurora Expeditions will pay tribute to Sir Ernest Shackleton and the crew of the 1914-17 Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition on the below expeditions.

Centenary Voyage Highlights

+ Polar Pioneer will be host to a floating exhibition of Frank Hurley’s iconic images (in conjunction with State Library of NSW).

+ Expedition team joined by expert Historian on each voyage.

+ Celebrated historian and world authority on Frank Hurley, Alasdair McGregor, will lead the historical element of The Shackleton Spirit Voyage (ASG61).

+ Expeditionary-style centenary dinner including a whisky toast on our ship’s bow and readings from Shackleton’s journal.

+ Shackleton graveside memorial at Grytviken Cemetery.

+ Guided tour of South Georgia Museum and Whaling Station.

+ Key destinations that trace the Endurance Expedition: Weddell Sea, Elephant Island, Cave Cove, King Haakon Bay, Peggoty Bluff.

+ Walk in Shackleton’s footsteps: half-day walk from Fortuna Bay to Stromness Whaling Station; the final leg of his mission to get help.

+ Experienced mountaineers may re-enact Shackleton’s gruelling South Georgia alpine traverse.

+ Passengers receive a commemorative all-weather jacket and hard back voyage log.
