Extensions - Peru: The Land of the Incas

Peru is a fascinating country with an astounding variety of culture, geography & history. The Andean city of Cuzco was the ancient Inca capital and is the gateway to the "Lost city of the Incas" - Machu Picchu - the most famous archaeological site in South America. We have a number of tours in Peru to suit your timeframe and budget. Below is a sample of one of our tours.
Note: All touring is independent and can be adapted to suit your requirements.

 

Machu Picchu & Cuzco

Day 1
Arrive Lima. Transfer to Hotel Casa Andina for overnight accommodation with breakfast.

Day 2
Transfer to airport for flight to Cusco. On arrival transfer to your hotel. Rest and acclimatise to the higher altitude. (It’s very important to drink plenty of liquids and refrain from any strenuous activities.)  Overnight Hotel Casa Andina with breakfast.

Day 3
Morning at leisure and afternoon depart hotel for a half day tour of city and nearby ruins including Sacsayhuaman, Qenko, Puka Pukara and Tambomachay. Overnight Hotel Casa Andina with breakfast.

Day 4
Depart hotel (9am) for drive to Sacred Valley. After a sumptuous lunch visit ruins and village of Ollantaytambo. If travelling on a Sunday, Tuesday or Thursday a visit to Pisac Markets can be included. Overnight at Hotel Posada del Inca in Yucay with breakfast.

Day 5
Take tourist Pullman train from Ollantaytambo along the Urumbamba River to the “Lost City of The Incas” - Machu Picchu. Half day tour of ruins and buffet lunch included.  Afternoon to explore further and then bus down to Aguas Calientes for overnight at Hotel Hatuchay Towers with breakfast.

Day 6
Free morning – why not get up early and return to Machu Picchu ruins (the cost of the bus is approximately USD12.00 to and from the ruins and the entry cost is approximately USD44.00 and is not included in the package on this day) or take a swim in the thermal springs. Mid-afternoon (3pm - 4pm) tourist train back to Cusco. On arrival in Cusco you'll be transferred to your hotel. Hotel Casa Andina with breakfast.


Day 7
Free day in Cusco. There is some great shopping and excellent small museums to visit including the Municipal Museum and the Museum of Religious Art. Hotel Casa Andina with breakfast.

Day 8
Transfer to the airport for return flight to Lima.  On arrival you will be transfered to Hotel Casa Andina with breakfast.  Afternoon city tour and the Larco Herrera Museum or similar.

Day 9
Transfer to the airport for flight out.
