Extensions - Reykjavik Day Trips
Reykjavik has the best of both worlds: the qualities of a modern, forward looking society is complemented by a close connection to the country’s beautiful and unspoiled nature. On a sunny day, the mystical Snaefellsjokull glacier appears crystal-like and baby blue on the western horizon, as the mountainous moonscapes spread to the southeast. Reykjavik is a great place to visit, walking distances around town are short & everywhere worth seeing outside the city centre can be quickly and conveniently reached by bus.
Reykjavik City Sightseeing
This tour includes the most significant places in the capital and the surrounding towns. We visit the presidential residence at Bessastadir as well as Hafnarfjördur, the town where the ‘hidden people’ and humans live together in harmony. We pay a visit to the old fishing harbour and when possible, the fish market. We visit the University area, the old town centre where the Icelandic parliament Alpingi is situated, the town hall and the pond Tjörnin, frequently visited by families feeding the birds all year around. Hallgrimskirkja church and the garden where the sculptor Einar Jonsson kept his work, inspired by Nordic mythology and paganism. We will show you the sports and recreation area in Laugardalur, a geothermal heated outdoor swimming pool and sculptures crafted by Asmundur Sveinsson.
City Tour plus Blue Lagoon Option
After a short break in town the tour bus will continue on for the second leg of the trip to visit the Blue Lagoon – a most unique lagoon for bathing and healthful rejuvenation. The Blue Lagoon is located southeast of Reyjkavik near the fishing village of Grindavik on the Reykjanes peninsula. Mineral rich waters, high levels of silica, and algae give the Blue lagoon its blue colour and also form a light, natural sediment on the bottom.
The Golden Circle Classic
This popular excursion offers some of the best-known natural phenomena of Iceland. First we visit Nesjavellir power plant , which is in a high temperature geothermal area situated in the picturesque landscape of Lake Pingvallavatn. We enter the World Heritage Listed Pingvellir, sight of the oldest known functioning parliament in the world. We continue to the majestic and beautiful waterfall Gullfoss and from there towards the geothermal area around the incredible spouting hot springs of Geysir and Strokkur. On our way back we will make a photo stop by the immensely powerful old implosion crater, Kerid. From there we travel through fertile agricultural areas to Hveragerdi, a small and charming horticultural town, where you will see how geothermal energy has been harnessed to create unique greenhouse cultivation.
Landmannalaugar Super Jeep Safari
Begin your adventure in the Thorsar Valley. The jeep gradually approaches the realm of the interior where the landscape images change from green to grey and then to black. Heading over the mountains, you pass lava fields of different ages, black ash, scoria deserts and young craters where a few streams and brooks have been forged. The pearl of the central highlands, Landmannalaugar is situated in a valley between steep mountains, nestling at the high dark edge of the rhyolite lava field, Laugahraun. Many hot and cold springs mix and create a warm brook where you can bathe and relax.
