Alaska’s Inside Passage - The Ultimate Adventure Dates & Rates

Our Alaska voyage threads a spectacular route through the narrow straits, remote islands and glacier-carved fjords of the Inside Passage. Summer brings long days, breaching humpback whales and concentrations of bald eagles. Calm waters are alive with salmon, Stellar sea lions, harbor seals, orcas and porpoise. Black and brown bear, wolves, moose and deer roam temperate rainforest. Explore on foot, by Zodiac, kayak or paddle board. Our on-board hydrophone and bow-mounted underwater camera offer a special perspective as does polar snorkelling.

17 Day voyage 21-May-15 to 06-Jun-15

Days 1-3

Explore vibrant Seattle for a day and night, meet our fellow expeditioners and fly to Juneau, Alaska’s capital. Spend a day whale watching, visiting local art galleries, shopping or enjoying one of many performing arts. Early afternoon on day three, we are warmly welcomed on board Wilderness Adventurer.

Days 4-5

A winding fjord, waterfalls and glimpses of Rocky Mountain goats, lead us through Tracy Arm Wilderness to Sawyer Glaciers, where huge icebergs calve. We watch for bears, wolves, deer, Arctic terns and red breasted merlangers. We move to Frederick Sound, alive with humpbacks, orca and Steller sea lions. In Endicott Arm, ice-laden granite peaks, calving ice from the Dawes Glacier and seals on bergy bits feature, and if tides allow, we explore narrow Ford’s Terror.

Days 6-7

Paddle into Port Houghton’s back bays, where low tide reveals a smorgasbord of shellfish for local bears, mink and oystercatchers, or take a backcountry walk along a wild river. Enjoy a free morning in fishing town Petersburg, nicknamed “Little Norway”, before whale watching in Frederick Sound and passing by the rocky islets of Chatham Strait alive with Stellar sea lions.

Days 8-9

At Thomas Bay, trek through scenic rainforest or paddle the surreal blue meltwaters of Patterson Glacier, and learn of the area’s mythical, shape-shifting creatures called Kushtaka.

Days 10-12

In pristine Tongass National Forest, we explore Chatham Strait’s Kuiu and Barnof Islands, perhaps snorkelling for underwater life. We navigate the Sergius Narrows to Sitka, Southeast Alaska’s oldest non-Native settlement where Russian American and Tlingit history comes to life.

Days 13 - 14

Enjoy orcas, seals, otters and sea lions; mink and marten on the shore and eagles overhead. We enter Icy Strait and cruise the shores of Chichagof Island renowned for its bear population.

Days 15-16

We trek and paddle to the hidden corners of spectacular Glacier Bay National Park, where tidewater glaciers sweep down and mountain goats, bears and moose roam. Near South Marble Island, we see puffins and black oystercatchers.

Day 17

After breakfast, transfer to Juneau airport for our flight to Seattle.
